Four Nights in Knaresborough

Four Nights in Knaresborough Monday 21st  - Saturday 26th March at 7.30.p.m.

by Paul Webb,   directed by Jan Townend

On Christmas Day 1170 four knights left Henry II's household in Normandy and travelled to Canterbury. In the early evening of 29 December they murdered the Archbishop, Thomas Becket - the greatest crime after the Crucifixion and probably the worst career move in history. Four crazy, licentious and powerful killers find themselves abandoned and alone with only the four walls of Knaresborough Castle to protect them from the wrath of the nation. Paul Webb’s historical drama for the Tarantino generation has all the sexual energy, personal traumas and quick humour of an epic lads' night out, laced with the unsettling knowledge that sometimes you have to pay the price for what you’ve done.

The Caucasian Chalk Circle

Thursday The Caucasian Chalk Circle28th -Saturday 30th  October at 7.00.p.m

by Bertolt Brecht   Translated by Alistair Beaton    Directed by Jan Townend

The city burns in the heat of civil war and a servant girl sacrifices everything to protect an abandoned child. But when peace is finally restored, the boy’s mother comes to claim him. Calling upon the ancient tradition of the Chalk Circle, a comical judge sets about resolving the dispute. But in a culture of corruption and deception, who wins? Our best young actors present Brecht’s classic tale of justice, (or the lack of it) and the challenges to our morality in the modern world.
