Get Involved

Doncaster Little Theatre is a membership organisation and therefore, the theatre would not exist without its members. Being a member means you are part of a community organisation and can be involved with and contribute to the various aspects of the theatre’s work. Your involvement can be personally beneficial as the theatre can provide a wide range of opportunities that have the potential to develop your skills and experience in a variety of areas. Furthermore, the social aspects of being involved with the theatre can have a positive impact to your everyday life.

In addition to the personal benefits, being a member allows you to contribute to the theatre’s work in developing the performing arts in Doncaster and making theatre accessible to people from all walks of life.

Types of Membership
The activities undertaken by members vary depending on the type of membership they subscribe to. There are five types of membership at DLT: Artistic, Associate, House, Life and Young Lit. Membership is valid for one year from the date of joining.

The Young Lit is DLT’s youth theatre section. Annual subscriptions are paid by parents/guardians who become Associate Members (see the Young Lit tab). House Membership is for anyone who wishes to support the theatre without being involved with Artistic activities, a minimum subscription of £10 is required.  Life Membership is honorary and allocated by the Board of Directors to longstanding members of the theatre in recognition of their efforts and commitment to the theatre.

Artistic Membership is for anyone wishing to be involved with any creative area of the theatre’s activities. Artistic membership costs £50 (employed) £25 (part time/ unemployed).  A commitment to a monthly duty in a Front of House area is required as part of your membership agreement.

As a Member you will be eligible to audition for parts in our productions, and take part in a variety of different areas of work to support the running of the theatre, depending on your interest and skills, such as technical, set building, props, costumes, marketing and publicity, and much more.
We hold a monthly "Open Night" which are usually themed including an optional activity and give newcomers the chance to come along, informally meet members and find out more about the theatre. Details of the next open night will be posted on the front page of this site.

Being a member means you can...

BE INVOLVED
Get to do what you enjoy; act, direct, design sets and operate lights etc. With 10 DLT productions a year there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in a variety of ways. Some members choose just to act, whereas others like to try their hand in all areas, on and off stage. As a member you can also be involved with running the theatre through the day to day activities and monthly duties.

BE IN THE LOOP
As a Member you are entitled to receive monthly newsletters, these include bulletins about future events and activities as well as updates about any developments within the theatre. There is a special section on the website which is only available to members. This section includes minutes for past board meetings, financial reports, past newsletters and other notices and bulletins specific to members.

BE INSPIRED
With such a wide range of productions on offer at Doncaster Little Theatre there is always plenty to inspire whether you are on stage or in the audience. We strive to keep the ticket costs of our shows low so members can see as much as possible. There is also an annual pass for DLT shows including Young Lit productions. As part of our Big Lottery project, we have a wide range of activities designed to encourage our members’ skills and stagecraft.  These courses and workshops take place both in the theatre and elsewhere covering a range of theatre related disciplines. You can also access regional and national events through the LTG (Little Theatre Guild). At various points, throughout the year you will be able to take part in subsidised theatre trips and excursions.

BE PART OF THE GROUP

Doncaster Little Theatre is a Community Theatre, which produces its own artistic programme of amateur productions, as well as providing a venue for other companies, both amateur and professional. Being part of a theatre community opens up your social circle and helps you to build confidence and skills in a range of areas. We hold one Open Night each month which is a fun and informal social occasion for our members and always includes an activity. The theatre lounge is open to members to use as a social space between 4pm and 6pm Monday to Saturday with tea and coffee available to members but (don’t be surprised if you have to buy the milk on occasions). There is also Wi- fi in the lounge which is free to use.

BE PART OF THE THEATRE
Our Members are involved in the running of a theatre. It may seem obvious to mention but we are very fortunate to have our own theatre, the fact we don’t have to hire performance spaces elsewhere means we can stage 10 productions a year. But it also means that there is a lot work around just keeping the theatre operating, artistic, practical, technical, legal, financial etc etc, plenty of opportunities to get involved in running the business, which is also a regiatered Charity.
